Hi! I’m Brooke Alexandra!
Admittedly, it has been a very busy season and for those of you who I haven’t met in person, I would like to take a moment to introduce myself.
I started my Pilates practice at age 29 as a way to rehab my former husband post-cancer treatment. Unfortunately, we were both injured during the frosty few weeks of group classes and we both required surgery to rehabilitate.
This is why RF has a strict policy of requiring individual Pilates sessions to learn how to respect the power of the equipment and how to move your body safely.
Post-surgery we chose to train with a physical therapist who was also a Pilates instructor. This is when I saw huge changes and improvements in my body. After PT, we found a very talented instructor to start duets with.
I was so very impressed at our instructor’s ability to rehab him post-cancer and surgeries and still provide me with a challenging workout at the same time. I fell in love with this movement, but my experience at local studios did not align with the warmth the delicious movement my body was experiencing. Cancer treatment left us enormously in debt, and our jobs in engineering and dentistry could not support the repayment of that debt.
My drive to help my family and share this movement is how Reforming Foundations got its start in 2015 in downtown Berkley.
I now own two other locations: the first located in Berkley and now downtown Rochester and Milford. Community is one of our core values and it is very important to our tribe to support local downtown districts.
Teaching quality movement to others is my purpose, and to further support this goal I spent the last 2.5 years creating the Reforming Foundations School of Pilates, together with Dr. Lindsay Brandt a professor at Oakland University. We authored a 550-hour comprehensive teacher training program that is revolutionizing Pilates for the 21st century!

Not too long ago someone asked me, “WHY do you teach Pilates?
I love teaching, and I love people! Every day, people tell me RF is making a difference in their lives. We love the relationships we have with so many different people from all ages, backgrounds, and professions. A few secret joys: we learn about the joy of new pregnancies before anyone else and are often sworn to secrecy. We help women survive and heal from breast cancer, grandparents are able to get up off the floor from playing with their grandchildren, and we help strengthen clients before joint replacement surgery so their recovery would be faster.
We teach people how to be present and connect with their bodies.
We also love the incredible challenge and joy of working with elite professional athletes. At RF, we know every human needs Pilates.
We are a community! We have been there through happy times and very distressing times together — all the while providing a safe place to move.
The Reforming Foundation’s Why
We love people and helping people do all the things they love to do! We want people to feel joy in embodied movement, to make a new connection in their bodies and have this method of movement provide strength, endurance, mobility, and be truly empowering to each person we train.
We have created a community at Reforming Foundations that is our tribe, and we are so excited to be here in Milford! RF is a great working environment, moving environment, and supportive environment for every body.

Milford Update
I would like to introduce Katie, the new Milford studio manager.Katie will be here in the mornings Tuesdays – Fridays.
Katie comes to us with a degree in kinesiology from Michigan State, she and her husband live here in Milford with their son Jackson, and daughter, Madison. Katie is excited to restart her career and learn more about this beautiful form of movement. Please welcome her warmly!
This week our temporary sign went up! We are knocking down two walls and making the studio space larger. Our team has let us know it shouldn’t be too disruptive to our current classes. The spring walls will be removed and the new equipment is being delivered on Saturday!
Why the Changes?
The Pilates apparatus is designed to help you reform your body and help assist movement at times and others to increase the challenge of the movement. Every workout station will have a reformer, a mat and tower, and a Pilates chair. This allows us to teach Pilates as a system of movement as Joseph Pilates originally intended.
The class schedule is up to date. Click here for class descriptions.
Not to worry, we are here for you! Please call the studio at (248) 684-0045 or email milford@reformingfoundations.com with any questions or requests. When the desk is not staffed, the Milford phone will forward to another client experience director at Rochester or Berkley. You will always have support!
Thank you so much for your patience during this transition and we look forward to seeing the changes in all your bodies with these improvements to our studio and class schedule!
