Physical Therapy

Our goal at Reforming Foundations is to keep our community happy, healthy, and moving well. With this in mind, we offer highly skilled physical therapy to address injuries, chronic pain, and anything else that might be keeping you from moving your best. Each session is provided by a licensed physical therapist with a goal of improving movement quality for preventing injury or re-injury, and improving fitness.

What to expect

Your first physical therapy session will begin with a detailed evaluation to discover the specific body structure (muscle, joint, nerve, etc) causing your pain or movement problem, and the areas of tightness or weakness that may be contributing to this problem. We encourage our patients to be highly involved in their treatment planning, and we provide ongoing education about simple things you can do to manage your condition and help speed recovery. In-person treatment sessions may include manual therapy such as functional massage, joint stretching, or muscle stretching to reduce pain and provide more freedom for healthy movement. Hand-selected exercises will be used to restore healthy movement patterns for your body while building the strength, endurance, or power you need for the things you love to do.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if I need physical therapy?

If you are finding your everyday activities are limited by pain, discomfort, or difficulty moving your body, you may benefit from physical therapy. Our physical therapists also help you improve athletic performance and prevent injury. Still unsure? Call the studio!

Will I use Pilates equipment during treatment?

Our physical therapists might use Pilates equipment like the reformer during physical therapy if they think it would help you reach your goals, but if you’re not interested or are uncomfortable with it, there are plenty of other ways to achieve the same goals.

What’s the difference between Pilates and physical therapy?

Pilates is a form of alignment based strengthening that is beneficial for most people. Physical therapy care is provided by a Doctor of Physical Therapy to address movement problems, and incorporates hands-on treatment in addition to exercises and education. After an evaluation, our physical therapists will work with you to help you reduce pain and/or movement dysfunction. At Reforming Foundations, our physical therapists will occasionally use Pilates in your treatment plan, because it offers many benefits to the rehabilitation process.

Do I need a prescription for physical therapy?

Under Michigan law, you do not need a prescription to begin physical therapy. However, we will need to have one on file within 21 days after your first appointment.

How do I know if I have out-of-network benefits?

Simply ask your health insurance company these questions:

  • Do I have coverage for physical therapy from an out-of-network provider? (treatment codes- 97162, 97140, 97110, 97112, 97530)
  • Is there a deductible for out-of-network services? Have I met my deductible for this year?
  • Do I need to be pre-authorized for physical therapy sessions in order to receive reimbursement?
  • What are the steps to submit an out-of-network claim, and what must be included with the claim?

Do you take my insurance?

We work for you and not your insurance company. In order to provide the quality, attentive, and individualized care that you deserve, we have chosen to be an out-of-network provider and do not submit claims to your insurance. Payment is due at the time of service and we accept Flexible Spending Accounts as well as Health Savings Accounts. After each treatment session, we provide a detailed document that you can submit to your insurance for out-of-network reimbursement, if it is available to you.
